Who we are
Krause Architects is a London based architectural practice specialising in contemporary architecture, sensitive adaptation of historic buildings, interiors and strategic masterplanning. Established in 2009, the studio’s work combines design quality, technical rigour, sustainability and real estate value.
The studio is led by Andreas Krause, who founded the practice following more than a decade with Foster + Partners and UNStudio, and holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate, bringing commercial understanding of planning, viability, asset performance and long-term value to every project.
We combine the focus of a director-led studio with the capability of a wider specialist network: ARB registered architects supported by trusted consultants, makers and delivery partners selected to suit each project.
The business is co-owned by a woman. We think that is worth stating: women remain under-represented in the ownership and leadership of architectural practices, and equality is something we would rather demonstrate than describe.
How we work
Process
We follow the RIBA Plan of Work, with clear gateways for brief, scope, programme, budget, procurement and statutory strategy. Regulatory duties are planned from the start, with the right specialists.
Quality
Quality is director-led: regular senior review, with formal checks before we issue information, submit planning or release for tender. Procedures are tailored to each project’s scale, route, heritage and risk.
BIM
We work in Archicad and Revit, aligned with ISO 19650. Coordinated models and clash detection catch interfaces between structure, services, envelope and interiors before they reach site.
Sustainability
Sustainability is part of value, not a bolt-on. Retrofit first, fabric first — benchmarked against the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, with BREEAM, LEED, DGNB and WELL coordinated where the brief calls for it.
We are an accredited Living Wage Employer. Everyone who works at the practice, and every contracted member of staff, is paid at or above the real Living Wage, which is calculated on the actual cost of living and reviewed each year.
Key team members
Andreas Krause
Director
Founded Krause Architects in 2009 after more than a decade with leading international practices. A graduate of the Architectural Association, he became an Associate Partner at Foster + Partners, working on the McLaren Headquarters, Sainsbury Centre and Hydro Arena. He holds an MSc in Real Estate from the University of Reading.
Jose Pinho
Associate
Graduated in architecture from the University of Coimbra, Jose worked across the practice’s core sectors since joining in 2015, from masterplan developments to high-end residential, in London and overseas.
Nada Capelli
Associate
Nada studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and worked at muf architecture/art on public realm projects before joining Krause Architects in 2010. She has led schemes across all the practice’s sectors.
